My 10 Favorite Places From Mountains To Water

Take A Road Trip Around Iceland For Beautiful Scenery

Road Trips from Fort William, Scotland Offer Amazing Scenery Of Mountains And Lakes

My 10 Favorite Places From Mountains To Water

Whether driving mountain roads in the Colorado Rockies, standing on the shore of the Arctic Ocean in Iceland, listening to the wind in the Scottish Highlands, or sitting next to a northern Wisconsin lake, there are always ten places I would rather be on any given day. Now, I am not saying I don’t like where I am now or don’t live in the present; I just always wish I could be in one of these ten places.

10. Fishing on Lake Delta in Delta, Wisconsin

Lake Delta, Wisconsin Is One Of My 10 Favorite Places From Mountains To Water

To begin with, fishing on lake Delta in Delta, Wisconsin. I love the quietness and somewhat isolated location of this lake. However, the big draw for me is fishing. During a stay there in Mid May, my family and I had a contest to see who could catch the most fish. Of course, I won with a total of 126. Equally important, no fish were injured in the process; they were all tossed back.

9. Driving In Kansas

Take A Road Trip Through Kansas To Experience America's Small Town Charm

Driving, well, actually letting my husband drive while I stare out the window at the beautiful Kansas plains. I love a road trip on a back road in Kansas. Coasting through the small towns and looking for something that has yet to be discovered. That little park with the perfect picnic spot or the yummy donut at a small-town bakery. There is always something to find.

8. On The Shore Of Lake Superior

Lake Superior: My 10 Favorite Places From Mountains To Water

On the shore of Lake Superior, well specifically, Little Girl’s Point. I have always loved Lake Superior for as long as I can remember. In my opinion, the greatest of the Great Lakes. My favorite place on Lake Superior is Little Girls Point north of Ironwood, Michigan. Little Girl’s Point is about a half-mile long along the shores of Lake Superior. The well-maintained County Park and beach contain picnic tables, two pavilions, grills, and restrooms. The park also is home to a few lakeside and wooded campsites, and The beach is a rock picker’s and agate hunter’s dream. The unbelievably clear water is the perfect magnifying glass for the rock treasures. Furthermore, the beach is perfect for swimming and floating if you don’t mind cold water.

The view from the shore is something you will never forget. If you look across the lake to the Northwest, you can see the Apostle Islands and the Porcupine Mountains to the Northeast. Little Girl’s Point is located about 18 miles Northwest of Ironwood, Michigan.

Having lunch at the Mcdonald’s in Fort William, Scotland. Now you may wonder what is different about this Mcdonald’s that can’t be found in any of the other billions of them around the world. The answer is; it is in Fort William, Scotland. Fort William is a quaint town in the northwest section of Scotland. I just love the vibe of the town. The people are so friendly and fun to be around. Sitting at Mcdonald’s is a great way to experience the local color and discover what is happening in the area.

6. Driving Along The Northern Coast Of Iceland

Take A Road Trip Around Iceland For Beautiful Scenery

Driving along the northern coast of Iceland ranks relatively high in the places I would rather be. The towns are sparse, and the traffic is non-existent, making for that feeling of being alone in the wide open. Occasionally you will come to a spot in the road where the North Sea is washing across part of the road, and you will see a seal within reach. Be sure to get out of the car and look for rocks on the shore; you’ll be amazed at what you find. Glacier lagoons, black volcanic sand beaches, and volcanic mountains will take your breath away. But don’t worry; you won’t have a tree to block your view; there aren’t many.

Tip; rent a car ahead of time from a local company to save money. Drive the ring road around Iceland. Have a hotdog wrapped in bacon from a street vendor or petrol station.

5. Go On A Road Trip With My Parents

One thing I would love to do at any given time would be to once again go on a road trip with my parents. My parents raised me to appreciate and experience a great road trip. My mom would start getting my sister and me excited about the upcoming summer trip every spring. Planning was everything to her, and knowing now that was part of the experience. Picking our favorite pop, what kind of floaties, how much bug spray, new swimwear, and fishing hat went into the planning. Half of the fun was the planning. The excitement grew once we were in the station wagon and on the road. Dad would drive, and mom would entertain with exciting facts about the area and road games.

4. Snowy Range Scenic Byway

Drive Wyoming's Snowy Range Scenic Byway For Excellent Hiking and Beautiful Scenery

Snowy Range, Wyoming. This is one of the most beautiful mountain drives in the United States. This byway crosses the Medicine Bow Range in the Medicine Bow National Forest. Follow Highway 130 in southern Wyoming west of Laramie. The route reaches a height of 10,847 feet above sea level, and the mountains are so close you can reach out and touch them. Be sure to go between Memorial Day and Mid November; otherwise, the route is closed due to weather.

3. Glacier National Park

Visit Glacier National Park In The Off-Season For A Less Crowded Experience

Any time of the year, I would rather be inside the gates of Glacier National Park. However, I do have a favorite place in the late fall. A bench beside a lake is located at the fork of Many Glacier. This is the perfect place to sit and enjoy the beauty of Many Glacier Lake. Just listen to the waves lapping on the shore and the wind blowing through the tall pines; I have even witnessed a moose passing by…Amazing!

2. North Dakota

North Dakota: My 10 Favorite Places From Mountains To Water

There is nothing more amazing than driving on a road that seems to be endless and isolated. One of the best places to do this is in North Dakota. Along any rural highway, I seem to find peace. The puffy white clouds on a blanket of blue, above shades of green and earth tones, sing to my soul. There is something magical about a road trip through the unknown, wondering what you will discover. Sometimes you find a treasure, and sometimes you don’t; either way, you feel amazed.

1. Cottonwood Pass

One Of Our Favorite Road Trips From Buena Vista, Colorado Is To Cottonwood Pass

The place I would most like to be at any given time would be Cottonwood Pass in Colorado. An easy scenic drive from Buena Vista, Colorado, on Highway 306 takes about 33 minutes to reach the summit. Once you get to the parking lot, it is a short hike to what seems like the top of the world. Mountains and vistas in every direction. There is nothing like the complete solitude and peace I feel while experiencing the panoramic view. All my senses come alive, and I feel that the world has stopped, if only for a few minutes. Like John Denver sang, “I climbed cathedral mountains and saw silver clouds below, I saw everything as far as you can see, Colorado Rocky Mountain High.” My favorite place in the world.
